A new job, a new location!!!

I got a new job!!! I’m very excited about the position… and the location. Well, more about the location than the position, but I think I’ll enjoy the position very much, too.

When I accepted the position I began looking at properties for sale and checking with the codes departments of some towns in the area. I can get a lot for $2000, two lots side by side for $4000, or a lot with an old 618 sq ft house on it (scrap lumber? reuse the frame? remodel completely and upgrade/downsize since I think 200+ sq ft is an addition?) for $5500. No ordinance against a 300-400 sq ft house. I would hope to work closely with code enforcement since they are cooperative, showing them the plans and some finish sketches. I plan to talk to them more tomorrow and maybe arrange an opportunity to meet to discuss possibilities. Hopefully by the end of the summer or early fall, I’ll have my own small house!

I may have to delay a year… I still have my big house to put the finishing touches on and sell. I’m hoping that the $5500 house is (at least barely) habitable. If so I hope to buy it and move there. Worst case scenario I live there for a year and break even for what I’d have paid in rent. Best case, I live there for awhile and either strip it to the frame and totally redo it (if the foundation is solid) or use it for scrap, in which case I would at least obtain very cheap hard wood flooring and perhaps appliances, door knobs, trim, doors, and sinks, rip out the copper pipe to sell, scrap the house and donate the empty lot (which doesn’t meet code to build a new house on) to the city for a very small park or community garden/orchard.

Tomorrow, I go tiny house lot hunting.  Yeah!!

About thrugracealone

I'm a country girl raised city. I prefer open windows to AC, love a good thunderstorm, and enjoy hearing the owls and seeing lightning bugs. A bit old-fashioned, maybe, I can recognize many trees by name, resent elms and weeds, wish for a large garden and canning skills, and hope someday to downsize and get a few acres in the country. I am blessed with a terrific church, a good job, a sturdy house, two cats and a yard full of strawberries and mulberries in the right season. Some of my other favorite things to do are spoiling nieces and nephews, reading, swimming, biking, long walks, and blogging, of course. One of my favorite stories is creation. My abbreviated version goes like this: 1In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2Now the earth wasa formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters... And God moved... And God said... And it was very good. If God can speak to darkness, to an earth without form and void, and make something like this that we see everyday, and make it very good (and it was even better before the Fall!), He will surely make something wonderful out of the dark, void situations I sometimes find myself in. He has, and it's been very good. Two top posts: Can a Person Lose their Salvation? http://wp.me/p1CY5z-1R Baptism! http://wp.me/s1CY5z-baptism
